Front Introduction
Government Naveen Mahavidyalaya, Premnagar is the only higher education institution in this remote, tribal-dominated region, which also forms part of one of Chhattisgarh's oldest assembly constituencies. Established on 9th July 2012, the college was founded in response to the aspirations of the government, local administration, and the people, with a vision to expand access to higher education in this underserved area.

Premnagar, located 60 kilometers south of the district headquarters, Surajpur, sits atop a hillock along the Bilaspur–Ambikapur–Surajpur main road. It also serves as the tehsil and development block headquarters. The region remains significantly underdeveloped educationally, where many rural girls are often compelled to discontinue their studies after higher secondary education and marry at a young age. In such a context, the presence of Government Naveen Mahavidyalaya, Premnagar, plays a vital and transformative role in the educational and social development of the area.

Since its inception, the college has been on a path of steady growth, offering undergraduate programs in Arts, Science, and Commerce. It is affiliated with Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya, Sarguja Ambikapur (C.G.) and is recognized under the 2(f)category by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college has been accredited with a ‘B’ grade by NAAC. Many of its alumni have successfully secured employment or started self-employment ventures.

Thanks to the dedication and efforts of its capable faculty, the college has earned a reputation for a clean, peaceful, and academically enriching environment, along with active participation in academic, cultural, and sports activities.

Since 2015, the college has been operating from its new campus, equipped with adequate infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, computer room, girls’ common room, gym, and hygienic toilet facilities. Students also benefit from services like the National Service Scheme (NSS), library access, cultural programs, drinking water, and first-aid.

Several functional committees contribute to the smooth functioning of the college, including the Discipline Committee, Anti-Ragging Committee, Grievance Redressal Cell, Women’s Committee, Admission Committee, and Examination Committee. The college regularly conducts unit tests, sessional exams, internal assessments, and pre-annual exams to ensure academic rigor. Scholarships are available for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), BPL families, and differently-abled categories.

The college has also been designated as a regular and self-study examination center for undergraduate programs by Sant Gahira Guru Vishwavidyalaya.

The guiding motto of the institution is:

"The wealth of knowledge is the chief of all wealth."
